History Of Albert Hall Museum

An artistic marvel that has captivated both travelers and royalty, construction of the Albert Hall Museum started in 1876. The building’s foundation was set during the visit of Albert Edward (King Edward VII) Wales which remained unclear for sometime.
Trivia – Known to be the Government Central Museum, it can be found within the scenic Ram Niwas Garden.
It was the then resident surgeon, Dr Thomas Holbein Hendley who, after considerable deliberation, suggested this space be used to display the work of local artisans. This work interested Sawai Madho Singh II in 1880, which ultimately resulted in the construction of a local Industrial Arts museum.
Construction work on the small museum began in 1881, and it became operational the same year. However, it was not until 1887 that the construction of Albert Hall Museum was completed. Samuel Swinton Jacob, aided by Mir Tujumool Hoosain, designed the museum with the intention of opening it to the public. The museum aims to educate the local youth and visitors about local art and became an important venue to help craftsmen exhibit their skills and refine their skills, thus marking an important point in the cultural heritage of Jaipur.
