Over 100 items, consisting of garments, printing blocks, and textiles from 1960, are featured in the permanent collection titled ‘Anokhi Archives’ held by the museum. Additionally, other furniture used in that period constitutes the collection.
The chapters in the museum’s collections are arranged sequentially such as: Introduction, Haveli Restoration, Regional Textiles, Natural and Chemical Dyes, Block Printing and Carving Tools, Gold and Silver Printing and the Demonstration Area.

History of Anokhi Museum of Hand Printing Jaipur
Judging Anokhi as a brand, it was founded decades ago of the museum’s existence as it is brand was started back in the early 1970s by Faith Singh and J.P. ‘John’ Singh who happens to be in-laws of Rachel Brakken Singh.
It was conceived by Rachel Brakken Singh along with her husband Pritam Singh. They established the museum in 2002 with a vision to protect the antiquated practice of hand block printing which is quintessentially part of Rajasthan’s culture and heritage. Rachel is the Founder and the Director of the museum.
She might have started bringing the museum into existence, but it was John Singh, her father-in-law who bought the decaying mansion in the late 1970s that would later morph into the museum, in late 1970s. Restoration work was initiated in 1989 by many well known architects such as Nimish Patel and Parul Zaveri.
Moreover, Rachel described the restoration of the structure back to its original state as painstaking without the aid of local artisans, craftsmen and builders which meant relying on local materials. It took thirteen years to complete due to the care and attention put into preserving the building which eventually won the UNESCO ‘Cultural Heritage Conservation’ award in 2000.
Before the renovations were made, the museum was housed in a broken-down mansion known as Chanwar Palkiyon ki Haveli. Now, it has been renamed Anokhi Museum of Hand Printing. The locals still use its original name. The mansion was historically used as a resting area for palanquin bearers during reigns of the royals.
The first chronologically presented exhibition in the museum was ‘Print Progress — Innovation and Revival 1970-2005’, and was endorsed by Pramod Kumar and Emma Ronald. The museum’s curator and visiting consultant is currently Suki Skidmore, who began her work with Rachel in 2007.
